Disclosure: Leanova Academy sells CCMP® training, so we have a stake in this topic. ACMP® fees below link to official sources, training prices are market observations, and we show the arithmetic so you can check it.

Key takeaways

  • In 2026, the CCMP® application fee is US$595 for ACMP® members and US$795 for everyone else, and it already includes the exam.
  • A realistic all-in budget, with the 21 hours of required training, runs from about US$1,300 to US$5,700.
  • Each exam retake costs US$300 for members and US$375 for non-members, within one year of your application being accepted.
  • The 21 required hours typically cost US$400 to US$900 as an accredited self-paced course, US$800 to US$2,500 as a live virtual program, and US$2,500 to about US$4,850 in person.
  • Standard ACMP® membership costs US$199 a year, almost exactly the US$200 fee gap. On its own, joining first roughly breaks even; the membership bundle, a retake or Emerging Economy pricing is what makes it pay.
  • You renew the CCMP® every three years by submitting 60 professional development units, or PDUs, and paying a renewal fee of US$100 for members or US$150 for non-members.

The application costs US$595 if you're an ACMP® member and US$795 if you're not, and that fee already covers the exam. Training is bought separately, and that's where totals drift apart: the same 21 required hours sell for a few hundred dollars at one end of the market and several thousand at the other.

Do you need to join ACMP® first?

You don't need to be a member to get the CCMP®, but membership changes the price of the application and of any retake.

Members pay US$595 for the application and non-members pay US$795, a US$200 gap. Retakes work the same way, at US$300 for members and US$375 for everyone else.

Here's the honest arithmetic. Standard membership costs US$199 a year, so joining first saves you about US$1 on the application alone. It starts to pay when:

  • you buy ACMP®'s CCMP® + membership bundle, at about 10% off;
  • you need a retake, where members save another US$75;
  • you renew your CCMP® every three years, where members pay US$100 instead of US$150;
  • you live in an Emerging Economy country, where membership is US$89;
  • you'll use the other member benefits, such as events, resources and member pricing from QEP™ providers.

Current membership levels and prices are on ACMP®'s membership FAQ.

What do the application and exam cost?

This is the line candidates most often count twice. You make one payment and it covers two things, because the exam fee is already inside the application fee. Nothing more is charged when you book your exam slot.

For that money, ACMP® reviews your file, including the essays that show how your experience maps to the ACMP® Standard. You then get one attempt at the 150-question exam.

What if you need to retake the exam?

Once your file is accepted, you have a year to schedule the exam, sit it and pass, with retakes allowed inside that year. Each retake costs US$300 for members and US$375 for non-members.

We'd budget this as a risk, not as part of the plan. Proper preparation is the cheapest insurance against a second attempt. If it does go wrong, we cover what to do if you fail the CCMP® exam in a separate article.

How much does the training cost?

You need 21 hours of change management instruction, completed in the seven years before you apply. Training costs vary considerably, from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. While courses that satisfy ACMP®'s education requirements can all contribute toward CCMP® eligibility, QEP™ courses offer the advantage of having their qualifying hours pre-approved.

Accredited self-paced online courses usually cost between US$400 and US$900, and you study when it suits you. When the course comes from an ACMP® Qualified Education Provider™, the hours are pre-qualified and ACMP® doesn't review the content separately. Leanova's 21-hour self-paced CCMP® course is US$595, ACMP® course code Q000607.

Live virtual programs with an instructor usually run US$800 to US$2,500. You get fixed cohort dates, an instructor and peer discussion. If you know you won't finish a self-paced course on your own, the extra cost pays for itself. Leanova's live + self-paced bundle costs US$795, below the usual range for live training, and also includes the 450-question practice exam and the 10-hour MCMP™ course. Self-Paced or Instructor-Led CCMP® Training: How to Choose goes through that decision in more detail.

In-person programs and premium brands start around US$2,500. Prosci®'s certification program, for example, lists at US$4,500 online and US$4,850 in person. Premium programs such as Prosci® may include proprietary methodologies, tools and other benefits beyond the CCMP® education requirement. Their higher price therefore reflects a different training proposition, not simply the cost of qualifying hours.

Cheaper courses outside the accredited tier carry a hidden cost. If the training isn't from a QEP™, ACMP® assesses the content itself and credits only the part that matches the Standard. Say a US$300 course yields twelve qualifying hours: you still have to buy the missing nine, and it can end up costing more than a US$600 course that yields all twenty-one. The 21-Hour ACMP® Education Requirement: Which Training Qualifies explains how that assessment works.

Is exam prep worth paying for?

Exam prep is optional and sits outside the 21 hours. Think question banks, mock exams and study guides, which a few providers include and most charge extra for.

Weigh it against the retake fee. Leanova's CCMP® Practice Exam, with 450 questions aligned with the ACMP® Standard, costs US$95. If it helps you pass the first time, it has paid for itself three times over against a US$300 member retake, and you avoid the delay of rescheduling.

What does renewal cost every three years?

Your CCMP® is valid for three years from the day you pass. To keep it, you submit 60 PDUs in the third year and pay a renewal fee.

PDUs can come from conferences, QEP™ and non-QEP™ courses, webinars, reading, your own change management work, and giving back to the profession. One PDU generally equals one hour of activity, and you'll earn much of this through your normal work anyway. The renewal fee is US$100 for ACMP® members and US$150 for non-members, every three years, according to ACMP®'s CCMP® FAQ. The cycle itself is explained in CCMP® Recertification: How the Three-Year Cycle and PDUs Work.

What are three realistic totals?

Total≈ US$1,390 (≈ US$1,310 with the bundle)≈ US$1,590 to US$3,390≈ US$3,390 to US$5,740

The efficient route suits candidates who study well on their own. Note that with a self-paced course, joining ACMP® first and applying as a non-member come out at almost exactly the same total, so decide on membership for its other benefits.

The supported route buys accountability and access to an instructor. With Leanova's live bundle, which includes the practice exam, it costs only about US$200 more than the efficient route.

The premium route is usually the one employers pay for, often with a brand-name program and its toolkit.

All three end in the same credential, and nothing on the certificate says which route you took. These totals exclude application coaching, which some candidates add if they're unsure about their essays: Leanova's CCMP® Application Coaching is US$590.

Where are the real savings?

Almost all the difference between those totals comes down to three decisions.

Pick a QEP™ provider for certainty, not prestige, so you won't end up paying for hours that come back only partly credited.

Spend on exam prep rather than on a retake. A US$95 practice exam against a US$300 to US$375 retake is the easiest saving in the whole budget.

Decide on membership with the real numbers. At US$199, it pays through the bundle, a retake, Emerging Economy pricing or the benefits you'll actually use, not through the application fee alone.
