Key takeaways

  • Leanova Academy's self-paced CCMP® training costs US$595 and suits an unpredictable schedule, a distant time zone or someone who already finishes courses alone.
  • The live virtual training costs US$795 and suits candidates who learn through discussion or who skip anything that isn't scheduled.
  • Both formats deliver the same 21 hours of ACMP® Qualified Education Provider training, mapped to the five process groups of the ACMP® Standard.
  • Both count fully toward the CCMP® education requirement. The US$200 gap buys live sessions, and at Leanova it also brings the 450-question practice exam and the 10-hour MCMP™ course.
  • Neither price includes the CCMP® application fee, which ACMP® sets at US$595 for members and US$795 for non-members, exam included.
  • ACMP® has accepted self-paced training toward the 21 hours since August 2024.
  • At Leanova Academy, the live option includes self-paced access to the same course, so a missed session doesn't leave a gap. Every purchase is fully refundable within 14 days.

Leanova Academy's 21-hour CCMP® self-paced training costs US$595, and you complete the hours on your own schedule. The 21-hour live virtual training costs US$795 and runs as fixed cohort sessions with an instructor. That extra US$200 buys structure, accountability and live interaction. At Leanova, it also includes the self-paced course, the 450-question practice exam and the 10-hour MCMP™ course, valued at US$1,085 if bought separately. Which one suits you depends on your schedule, your time zone and how you honestly finish things on your own.

What is each format, exactly?

Both courses cover the same 21 hours of ACMP® Qualified Education Provider training, mapped to the same five process groups of the ACMP® Standard. The self-paced version carries ACMP® course code Q000607 and the live version Q000609. Both count in full toward the 21-hour CCMP® education requirement, and only the delivery changes. ACMP® has accepted self-paced training toward the 21 hours since August 2024, so older documents that describe live instruction as mandatory are out of date.

The self-paced training is recorded content. You work through it when and where it suits you, at whatever pace you set, with a year of access that Leanova extends on request at no charge. The live virtual training adds scheduled cohort sessions with an instructor, fixed times and other candidates on the call. It also includes self-paced access to the same course, so you can catch up on anything you miss.

How do you learn best?

Some people learn by reading, stopping and going back over a section until it sinks in. Self-paced training fits them well. You set the pace of every module. A hard section on stakeholder impact assessment can take as long as it needs, and nobody's left waiting on you.

Others learn out loud, picking things up from the questions other candidates ask and from the instructor's answers. Those answers often cover points they'd never have thought to raise alone. That's what the live virtual format gives you. An instructor can also clear up a specific confusion on the spot, instead of leaving you alone with a transcript.

Neither style is more rigorous. Both produce equally qualified CCMP® candidates as long as the hours are properly put in. That's what ACMP® actually checks. Not sure which camp you're in? Think of the last online course you finished and the last one you dropped. What was different about them? Was it the pace, the structure, or simply whether someone expected you somewhere at a set time?

How much control do you have over your time?

Are your weeks hard to predict because of shift work, frequent travel or caregiving? Then self-paced training usually works better. Fixed session times stop being a support and turn into a liability once your calendar won't hold still.

Now suppose your week is predictable, but you let anything without an appointment slide. Live sessions often work better for you. A cohort session behaves like a meeting other people are counting on, so it's a lot harder to skip.

What does the price gap really pay for?

US$595 against US$795 is a US$200 difference for the same 21 hours of accredited content. At Leanova, the live option also includes the self-paced course, the 450-question practice exam (US$95 on its own) and the 10-hour MCMP™ course (US$395 on its own). Neither price includes the CCMP® application fee, which ACMP® sets at US$595 for members and US$795 for non-members, exam included. For the full fee picture, read How Much Does the CCMP® Certification Cost in 2026?

The US$200 is worth paying if you know from experience that unstructured study time slips away from you, or if you want the practice exam and the MCMP™ course anyway. It's less compelling if you've completed self-paced courses before without difficulty and only need the 21 hours. In that case, the self-paced course alone, or the CCMP® Confidence Bundle (US$695) if you want exam practice, is the better buy.

Who keeps you on track?

With self-paced training, all the accountability sits with you. Nobody notices if you fall two weeks behind. Whether that's harmless or a serious risk depends on how honestly you can answer that question about yourself.

Live virtual training has accountability built in. A missed session is visible to you and to the instructor. For most people, that visibility alone works better than any deadline they set themselves.

What about time zones and cohort scheduling?

Live sessions run at fixed times. The further your time zone sits from the cohort's hours, the more this matters. When you're several hours off the session slot, every live class means an early start or a late evening. That friction repeats every week and adds up over the full 21 hours.

Self-paced training takes the problem away completely, since there's no cohort clock to work around. It's the more practical option outside the main time zones of the live cohorts.

Which format fits your situation?

SituationBetter fit
Unpredictable weekly schedule or shift workSelf-paced
Consistently skips unscheduled tasksLive virtual
Time zone far from cohort hoursSelf-paced
Learns better through live discussionLive virtual
Has finished self-paced courses before without troubleSelf-paced
Wants a fixed instructor to ask questions in real timeLive virtual
Price sensitivity is the deciding factorSelf-paced

Choosing for several colleagues rather than yourself? The same logic applies person by person. For a group, compare Leanova's private CCMP® cohort (up to ten participants, US$7,950) with corporate bulk pricing on self-paced enrollments, which runs from 20% to 40% off depending on group size.

What happens if you choose wrong?

With many providers, switching formats mid-course isn't a standard option, so a poor first choice costs momentum as well as money. Picture a candidate who signs up for live sessions, then misses half of them because the schedule never fit. At Leanova Academy, the live option includes self-paced access to the same course, so that candidate can catch up on their own instead of falling behind.

So if you're genuinely torn, ask yourself whether the live sessions are worth US$200 to you. If you doubt you'll attend them, self-paced is the cheaper choice. If you want them, the live option keeps the self-paced safety net. Either way, Leanova refunds in full within 14 days of purchase if the format turns out to be wrong for you.

Is one format more serious than the other?

Both formats are full ACMP® Qualified Education Provider training that satisfies the 21-hour requirement. You're matching a format to the way you work, not picking between a serious option and a lesser one. Don't assume the more expensive course must be the more rigorous. Candidates who choose on an honest self-assessment tend to finish on schedule, whichever format they pick.

Once you know your format, A Six-Week CCMP® Study Plan That Fits Around a Job shows how these hours fit into a full revision timeline. It walks through training and preparation for the CCMP® exam week by week.

Want exam practice as well? The CCMP® Confidence Bundle (US$695) combines the 21-hour self-paced course, the 450-question practice exam and a 5-hour AI change management certification. Prefer to study in another language? The same accredited course is available as French audio (US$795) and Spanish audio (US$595), with course materials in English, and live in French (US$995). The CCMP® exam itself is offered only in English.
